Long before Arabella turned two, a Disney-loving friend of mine posted photos of her son’s “Oh Twodles” Mickey Mouse-themed birthday party, and I thought it was genius. (For those who don’t know, Mickey and friends all say “Oh Toodles” several times per episode on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, summoning a magical helper thingy). And since Arabella started getting really into Minnie Mouse Bow Toons and all things Mickey last year, I thought a Minnie-themed party would be perfect. We didn’t end up having a real party with lots of guests, because COVID, but everything I did was pretty simple and scalable for a larger group.
We built the balloon arch and put up the decorations after Arabella had gone to bed the night before, then started the day with Mickey- and Minnie-shaped pancakes. Then we did the actual birthday party, with cake and presents, after her nap.
Party menu
*Mickey Mouse Clubhouse sandwiches (aka club sandwiches cut into Mickey shapes with a sandwich cutter)
*Hot diggity dogs (pigs in a blanket)
*Minnie’s bow-tastic pasta salad (pasta salad made with bowtie pasta)
*Goofy’s mixed up fruit salad (we cut some of the watermelon into Mickey shapes but I don’t think it was worth the effort)
*Daisy’s delightful lemonade (raspberry lemonade from the grocery store)
*Minnie Mouse bow cake and cupcakes
The Minnie Mouse bow cake was a strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting. I used this recipe for the cake, but made normal cream cheese frosting instead and added some strawberry jam in between the layers. Once the frosting was ready, I separated a little of it out to dye red, kept a tiny bit white, and then dyed the rest pale pink. I also made some cupcakes, which I topped with chocolate-covered mini Oreos to look like mouse ears.
I already had my Minnie dress and ears, but I ordered a personalized T-shirt for Arabella, along with a Minnie dress, ears, and some other party favors and decorations. Toby wore a Tommy Bahama Mickey shirt, and I ordered personalized shirts for all of the grandparents! A list of everything I used or ordered for the party is below; please note that most of the links are affiliate links, which means I will make a small commission if you click through and buy it.
