When I first moved to Bahrain, I was surprised to discover how many restaurants served afternoon tea. But after further reflection, it makes sense: Besides the fact that Bahrain has tons of restaurants and nice hotels in general, it also has a significant population of British expats, and a long history of British influence.
Because there were so many options—and so many other tea lovers—there was even a tea club! I joined so I would have an excuse to try every afternoon tea in Bahrain with some like-minded ladies, though I think I did miss a place or two.
So though I know some places are closed and others are take-out only, I wanted to share my favorites for when you’re able to go in person. Let me know in the comments if you have been to afternoon tea in Bahrain, and which place is your favorite!
The Orangery
The Orangery at the Palace Boutique hotel is my top pick for afternoon tea in Bahrain. The food and sweets are delicious and unique, the inside is lovely, the garden is gorgeous, they have great options for the actual tea, and there is other food available if you’re still hungry or you’re with someone who doesn’t want tea. And while all of the afternoon tea services on this list are at hotels, this one is in a restaurant that is outside of the hotel, so it feels a little more intimate than a huge lobby.
Just make sure you check the timing, because afternoon tea is only available at certain times. But if you’re really jonesing for some scones right now, they are doing afternoon tea delivery!
Ritz-Carlton Gourmet Lounge
Ritz-Carlton Bahrain also serves a nice afternoon tea in their Gourmet Lounge. Their website also says they offer tea in the Lobby Lounge, but I never tried it there. I liked the food, but didn’t love it. However, I do love walking around the grounds of the Ritz afterward and seeing the flamingos!
Four Seasons Bay View Lounge
Four Seasons Bahrain has a beautiful afternoon tea in its stunning Bay View Lounge. I really love this hotel, and Patty and I enjoyed our tea here. It’s probably my second favorite, though I wish it was inside a cafe or restaurant instead of in the hotel’s lobby. But, if you’re going to have tea in a lobby, you should do it here, because the lobby is epic and the food is delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the Bahrain Bay area.
