We had every intention of going to Philadelphia for the Army-Navy game this year, but we waited too long to get tickets. So instead, we decided to have a party at our house. Along with the beer, pulled pork and macaroni and cheese, I thought we needed a Navy-themed margarita. Luckily for me, Meyer lemons are in season.
This is pretty similar to a regular margarita, and it is definitely as strong. That was probably a good thing, since the game was WAY too close for comfort, but you can dilute it a bit by loading up the glasses with ice and blueberries first, and/or by adding more lemon juice and agave.
Singing the Navy alma mater after drinking is optional.
Navy Blue and Gold margaritas (Makes about 4 margaritas)
10 ounces tequila (I used anejo that was finished in a bourbon barrel, and it was awesome. You can use whatever kind you want, but I highly recommend something that says 100% agave on the bottle)
4 ounces Cointreau
5 ounces freshly squeezed Meyer lemon juice (4-5 lemons)
1.5-2 ounces agave syrup (if you can’t find Meyer lemons and have to use regular lemons, you may need more than this)
Lots of ice
Blueberries
Stir the tequila, Cointreau, Meyer lemon juice and agave syrup together, then pour into a pitcher with lots of ice. Add some blueberries to the pitcher for garnish. When serving, make sure there is plenty of ice and a few blueberries in each glass (you can do this by adding ice and blueberries before pouring the liquid, if you like). Enjoy!
