I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! We are having a fun and relaxing time in Michigan, and we went to see the awesome Christmas lights (all 5 million of them!) at the Detroit Zoo the other night.

It hasn’t been as cold as it normally is around here, but winter nights in Detroit are never exactly warm, so we bundled up as best we could. Well, everyone except my brother (who instantly regretted his sartorial choices).

He’s not wearing a headlamp, by the way. That’s a reflective running beanie. I’m wearing a hat with the hood of my coat over it, and Toby wasn’t sure about wearing that hat with reindeer horns on it, but it was very warm. Only my dad (who was taking this photo) thought to wear running tights under his jeans, but that would have been a wise decision.

While there wasn’t any adult hot chocolate at this particular event, the regular hot chocolate helped keep us warm for the first part of the hour or so we spent walking around the zoo. None of the animals were out, sadly, but we did get to go into the otter house and see the otters racing and splashing around. And the lights were very impressive. Definitely a fun event for a family. Just make sure you dress warmly!
