Last week I went into the Pa. Dutch Farmer’s Market for the first time. O.M.G. I had no idea it was so amazing. But I didn’t have a lot of time, so I just got a smoothie and left. The smoothie (fresh peaches, fresh pineapple and ice) was ridiculously good and I planned to go back and buy boatloads of fruit and vegetables the next day. Except… it closes at 3 on Saturdays, which I didn’t realize until we arrived at 4. So we went to the Fresh Market across the street instead.
They didn’t have quite the same selection of beautiful local produce and overly tan girls with Amish bonnets… but they did have some fabulous corn and these peaches, both from a farm in Maryland.
Since I didn’t plan to eat all the peaches immediately, I cut them up and froze them (with the skin on, mainly because I am lazy). And that brings me to today.
I wanted something similar to the smoothie I had at the Amish market, but I don’t have any fresh or canned pineapple chunks. However, I do have pineapple juice and frozen mango.
I also like to add yogurt to my smoothies for protein and creaminess, but I didn’t have peach yogurt. So I tried orange-passionfruit. I threw it all in my magical Ninja blender (two blades!) and viola! Vitamin-C-palooza!
This makes about a glass and a half.
Peach-pineapple-mango smoothie
3/4 cup frozen peaches (about a peach and a half)
1/2 cup frozen mango
6 oz. can pineapple juice
6 oz. yogurt (Orange-passionfruit or peach)
5-6 ice cubes
Note: You can use fresh fruit instead of frozen, but you will need some more ice cubes. I usually start with around six and check the consistency, then add a few at a time. You could also use fresh pineapple and skip the mango and canned pineapple juice.
*I just noticed there was a typo in the title of this post. Duh! It has now been fixed, sorry about that!
